Smart Home Makeover

Components of this Solution

New owners of a 4300 sq ft home were looking to implement a network and home automation solution for their new home. Safire Solutions met with the owners to discuss their ultimate goals and talk about the "art of the possible". The result was a multi-vendor solution that was integrated for ease of use.

Network- Ubiquiti network solution based on a UDM Pro with Safire Solutions running ethernet cable through attic spaces and walls to place a total of 4 U7 Pro Wireless Access Points. Ubiquiti 24 port Power over Ethernet port switches were also used to power access points and cameras. The primary Internet connection was a Cox Business connection and the UDM was set to fail over to a backup WAN port connected to a Ubiquiti Mobile Gateway connected to AT&T 5G.

Lighting- Safire Solutions replaced all light switches and light bulbs in the house with GE Cync devices for remote and automated control of lights. Many electrical and GFCI outlets were replaced with Leviton smart outlets and smart GFCI outlets to allow control of non-connected powered devices.

Security and Access- All exterior door locks were replaced with Aquara door locks with fingerprint, passcode, NFC and physical key access, A select few interior door handles were replaced with Aqara locks with the same features. Garage door automation was accomplished with MyQ garage door controllers and MyQ video keypads. Ubiquiti cameras were placed outdoors and in indoor common area spaces, and they were chosen as the video doorbell solution and connected to a Ubiquiti NVR for video recording and to a Ubiquiti Viewport for real-time viewing on several televisions in the house. Ubiquiti All-In-One Protect sensors were installed on every door and window to provide open/close status, temperature, humidity, motion status, and alerts.

Appliance Control—Samsung Televisions were selected to be placed in the home, as well as Samsung Appliances: Refrigerator, Washer, Dryer, etc. Automaton and alerts were set up through Samsung SmartThings. Honeywell Total Connect Comfort Thermostats were installed and configured for remote temperature control.

Voice Integration- All devices are set to be controlled through timed automation, scenes triggered by actions and/or through Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit voice commands.
